Free Cooling

Free cooling is a data center cooling method that takes advantage of local climate or geologic features to reduce reliance on mechanical refrigeration. Free cooling can take many forms, but

n data centers uses naturally cool ambient air or water to cool the facility instead of energy-intensive mechanical refrigeration, significantly reducing energy consumption and costs. This approach involves circulating cool outdoor air or water through heat exchangers to absorb heat from the data center. There are two main types: direct free cooling, where filtered outside air is brought directly into the data center, and indirect free cooling, which uses a heat exchanger to transfer heat from inside to the outside air without mixing the air streams.
